This article, about women who dress up as “time warp wives” imitating the fashions and domestic lifestyles of the ’30s, ’40s, and ’50s, got me wondering about which era I might want to morph back to. Fashion-wise, I think the ’50s were pretty cool, but I’d certainly feel far more comfortable in the cotton blends of the ’80s than in a crinoline and girdle (euw). And I have to say that I can’t at all imagine why someone would choose the dowdy housedresses of the ’30s. Flapper dresses and ’20s chic would be far superior in every way, methinks. But I don’t have the long lean boy-body of Twenties fashion, so the Fifties would probably suit me far better. I wonder, too, what it might be like to be a Mormon time warp wife and time-travel right back to pioneer old-timey times. You know, long homesewn dresses, ankle-length garments, a few sister-wives to help around the house….
Seriously, there is some true appeal to having a Time Warp Wife. I imagine her like a younger version of June Cleaver. Someone who does the ironing, makes jello salad, and always has a kind word. Plus the pearls are a bonus and I bet she smells really nice, too. I would LOVE to come home from work to find a wife like that in my kitchen. I’d come in the door and give her a great big hug and a kiss just before I settled into my cozy armchair with the evening paper (or, rather, google reader). Ahhhhh…..I’ll bet she gives really good backrubs, too….
Anyone know where I can get myself one? Or anyone want to volunteer for the job?
