Geek Love

Posted by Lily on July 8, 2008

A great “how to” for you nerdy guys who scored a hot chick and now want to convert her to the geek side.

My DH scores higher on the geek scale than I do, and over the years that we’ve been married he’s slowly made inroads at getting me to read SF, watch the LOTR series (more than once), play a few computer games, and navigate the blogosphere.

But I’ve rubbed off on him, too. He now eats more salads, has adopted a more liberal political view, and has even attended a folk music concert along with me.

How have you and your partner’s tastes influenced each other?

I don’t think this falls under the category of “tastes,” but my husband is a lot more politically aware now and I’m learning how to let stuff roll off my back more, to not let my OCD overwhelm me with what MUST be done or else the World Will End. Yeah. It’s not going to end if the dishes don’t get done for a day. That sort of thing.

Good job, MoJo. That’s a trait that will serve you well for years to come…

My husband and I have influenced each other in more ways than I can count.

Our political views have converged a bit, but I can’t tell how much since he doesn’t like talking about politics as much as I do. Or religion for that matter — he’s an atheist, and he thinks it’s a little weird that I like to spend so much time hanging out with religious people in blogspace. I’ve actually succeeded in converting him to blogging, though. Now he posts to his blog a few times a week. He blogs about math (so he doesn’t quite fit into my blog social circle), but I’ve subscribed to his RSS feed.

And as I mentioned here, he was the one who got me started reading fiction regularly as an adult.
